Description

These crispy Amish Onion Fritters are golden, savory bites of sweet onion goodness—easy to make and deeply satisfying as a snack or side dish. Perfect for parties or comfort food cravings.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon cornmeal

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup milk

2 cups yellow onions, finely chopped

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt.

2. Pour in the milk and mix until just combined. Fold in chopped onions.

3. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).

4. Drop heaping tablespoons of batter into the oil. Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.

5. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

Notes

For extra crispiness, make sure the oil is fully heated before frying.

You can substitute cornmeal with breadcrumbs for a slightly different texture.

Serve immediately for best crunch and flavor.
