Description
Amish White Bread is a soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet homemade bread that’s perfect for sandwiches, toast, or simply enjoying warm with butter. It’s easy to make and ideal for beginners, delivering that nostalgic bakery flavor right from your own oven.
Ingredients
2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
2⁄3 cup white sugar
1 1⁄2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
1⁄4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and stir in the yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
2. Add salt and oil to the mixture, then gradually mix in the flour one cup at a time until dough forms.
3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
5. Punch dough down, divide into two, shape into loaves, and place in greased 9×5-inch pans.
6. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until loaves rise above the pan edges.
7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
8. Remove from pans, cool on wire racks, then slice and serve.
Notes
Let your yeast fully activate until frothy before adding flour.
Use whole milk instead of water for extra softness.
Brush loaves with melted butter after baking for a glossy, flavorful finish.
