1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
5 large eggs
1 ¾ cups whole milk
¼ cup heavy cream
⅓ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
2 medium apples, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar (for apples)
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup cold butter, cubed
Instructions
1. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Add the cubed bread evenly across the bottom.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread cubes and press gently.
3. In a skillet, melt butter and add apples with brown sugar. Cook 5–7 minutes until soft. Spread over the bread mixture.
4. Combine streusel ingredients in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly and sprinkle over top.
5. Cover and refrigerate overnight or bake immediately.
6. Bake at 350°F for 45–50 minutes until golden and set. Serve warm.
Notes
Use day-old bread for best texture and soak absorption.
Customize with nuts, raisins, or swap apples for pears.
To reheat, warm leftovers in the oven at 325°F for best results.
