Description
Batata Harra is a Lebanese classic that combines crispy roasted potatoes with garlic, chili, lemon, and fresh herbs. It’s zesty, bold, and easy to make—perfect as a side dish or a mezze favorite.
Ingredients
2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 tbsp olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Juice of 1 lemon
1 small red chili, finely sliced (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. Toss cubed potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, and coriander. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer.
3. Roast for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp.
4. In a small skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil. Add minced garlic, chili flakes, and red chili (if using). Sauté until garlic is golden and fragrant.
5. Remove skillet from heat.
6. Transfer roasted potatoes to a bowl. Add garlic chili mixture, chopped cilantro, and lemon juice. Toss gently to combine.
7. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot.
Notes
Always roast the potatoes in a single layer for maximum crispiness.
Add lemon juice only at the end to keep the flavor bright and fresh.
Use parsley or mint if cilantro isn’t your thing.
