Description

A rich and savory caramelized onion jam made by slowly cooking onions until deeply golden and sweet, then finished with balsamic vinegar for a perfectly balanced spread. Ideal for burgers, cheese boards, sandwiches, or gourmet toppings.


Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 large yellow onions thinly sliced

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves optional


Instructions

1. Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium-low heat and add onions with salt and pepper

2. Cook slowly on low heat for 35 to 45 minutes until onions are soft and caramelized

3. Add brown sugar and cook for 5 minutes more

4. Pour in balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar and scrape pan

5. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes until thick and jammy

6. Stir in thyme if using and let cool before storing

Notes

Cook onions low and slow for best flavor

Slice onions evenly for consistent cooking
