Description

Cinnamon Roll French Toast Casserole is the perfect make-ahead breakfast bake for holidays, brunches, or slow weekends at home. Soft cubes of bread soak up a rich cinnamon-vanilla custard, then bake into a warm, golden casserole that tastes like classic French toast and cinnamon rolls in one cozy dish.

Ingredients

8 cups day-old brioche or French bread, cut into cubes

8 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup light brown sugar

2 tablespoons vanilla extract

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped pecans, optional

1/2 cup cream cheese frosting or vanilla icing, for topping

Instructions

1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray, then spread the bread cubes evenly in the dish.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and melted butter until smooth.

3. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes and gently press the bread down so it absorbs the liquid.

4. Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top if using, then cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or overnight.

5. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.

6. Let the casserole cool for 5 to 10 minutes, drizzle with cream cheese frosting or vanilla icing, and serve warm.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for the best texture because it soaks up the custard without turning soggy.

For deeper flavor, assemble the casserole the night before and bake it in the morning.

Warm the icing before drizzling so it spreads evenly over the casserole.
