Description

This Crispy Chilli Beef Rice recipe is a takeout-style favorite brought to your kitchen. Thin slices of beef are fried until golden and crispy, then tossed in a glossy sweet-chilli sauce with bell peppers and aromatics. Served over fluffy jasmine rice, it’s the perfect combination of heat, crunch, and savory goodness.

Ingredients

1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced

0.5 cup cornstarch

0.5 tsp salt

0.5 tsp ground black pepper

0.5 cup vegetable oil

1 red bell pepper, julienned

1 green bell pepper, julienned

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 inch piece ginger, minced

0.5 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp rice vinegar

3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp ketchup

Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Sliced green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

1. Toss the sliced beef with cornstarch, salt, and pepper until coated and let sit for 10 minutes.

2. Heat oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the beef in batches until crispy, about 3–4 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.

3. Remove excess oil from the pan, leaving 1 tbsp. Add garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Sauté for 30 seconds.

4. Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, sweet chilli sauce, brown sugar, and ketchup. Let it bubble for 1 minute to thicken slightly.

5. Return the beef and bell peppers to the pan. Toss to coat in the sauce and cook for 2–3 more minutes.

6. Serve over jasmine rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For extra crispy beef, fry in small batches and don’t overcrowd the pan.

Adjust the spice level by increasing or reducing red pepper flakes.

Jasmine rice pairs best, but you can also try basmati or cauliflower rice.
