Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons cotton candy flavoring
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pink gel food coloring
Blue gel food coloring
Colored sanding sugar (optional)
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and cotton candy flavoring.
3. Divide dough into two bowls. Add pink coloring to one and blue to the other. Mix until evenly colored.
4. Take a bit of each colored dough and gently press together to form swirled balls. Chill dough balls for 30 minutes.
5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place dough balls on a lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
6. Bake for 9–11 minutes until edges are set and centers are soft.
7. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack. Optionally, sprinkle with sanding sugar while warm.
Notes
Use gel food coloring for vibrant swirls without affecting dough texture.
Chill the dough to maintain thick, fluffy cookies.
Store with a slice of bread to keep cookies extra soft.
