Description

Warm, blistered, and soft, this garlic naan brings authentic restaurant-style flavor straight to your kitchen. Perfect for scooping up rich curries or simply enjoying on its own with a slather of garlic butter. It’s an easy dough that yields pillowy, chewy results every single time.

Ingredients

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1/2 cup warm water

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup plain yogurt

2 tablespoons oil

1/4 cup warm milk

3 tablespoons butter, melted

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, stir together warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 10 minutes until frothy.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Mix in yeast mixture, yogurt, milk, and oil. Stir until a dough forms.

3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

4. Punch down the dough and divide into 6 balls. Roll each into an oval or teardrop shape.

5. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high. Cook each naan for 1–2 minutes per side until bubbly and golden.

6. Brush warm naan with melted butter mixed with garlic. Sprinkle with cilantro if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

Let the dough rise in a warm spot for the fluffiest naan.

Don’t skip preheating your skillet—it helps achieve those signature charred bubbles.

You can make this naan vegan by using plant-based yogurt, milk, and butter.
