Description
Homemade Eggnog Jam brings the classic holiday drink to your breakfast table in spreadable form. With warming spices, creamy texture, and optional dark rum, it’s a festive treat perfect for toast, pastries, or as a unique edible gift.
Ingredients
2 cups whole milk
0.5 cup heavy cream
1.5 cups granulated sugar
4 egg yolks
0.5 teaspoon cinnamon
0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon dark rum (optional)
1 pinch salt
1 packet powdered fruit pectin
Instructions
1. In a saucepan, combine whole milk, cream, and sugar over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture is warm.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks. Slowly add some hot milk mixture to yolks while whisking, then return to saucepan.
3. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt. Mix cornstarch with a splash of milk to form slurry and add to saucepan. Cook until thickened.
4. Remove from heat, stir in pectin until dissolved. Add rum if using and mix.
5. Pour into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Wipe rims, seal, and process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Let cool before storing.
Notes
Tempering the egg yolks is key—don’t rush this step.
Use whole milk for the richest flavor and texture.
Pectin helps set the jam properly—don’t skip it.
