Description
These bakery-style Italian Butter Cookies are buttery, tender, and beautifully piped. Perfect for holidays, weddings, or any celebration, they can be dipped in chocolate, sandwiched with jam, or served simply as-is.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2⁄3 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
Optional: melted chocolate and sprinkles, or jam
Instructions
1. Cream the butter and sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).
2. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla. Mix until fully combined.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add gradually to wet mix.
4. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe shapes onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden.
6. Let cookies cool completely. Dip in melted chocolate or sandwich with jam if desired.
Notes
For perfect swirls, use a large open star tip and chill dough slightly before piping.
Don’t overbake! The cookies should be just lightly golden on the edges.
Let cookies cool completely before dipping in chocolate or adding jam to avoid melting.
