Description

Nutella French Toast Casserole is a decadent and easy-to-make breakfast dish that combines the richness of Nutella with soft, custard-soaked brioche. Perfect for brunch gatherings or a weekend treat, this baked casserole is crispy on the edges, soft in the middle, and bursting with chocolatey goodness. Prepare it the night before for a hassle-free morning!

Ingredients

1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cut into cubes

1 cup Nutella, softened

5 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Fresh berries, for serving (optional)

Maple syrup, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread and Nutella: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer half of the bread cubes, drizzle half of the softened Nutella over them, then repeat with the remaining bread and Nutella.
  2. Make the custard mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Soak the bread: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down slightly to ensure absorption. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Bake the casserole: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Drizzle melted butter over the top. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Let cool for 5 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar, top with fresh berries, and drizzle with maple syrup if desired.
