Description

This Perfect Toffee Apple Pie is a cozy fusion of crisp, tart apples and rich toffee flavor, all tucked into a golden flaky crust. It’s the ideal dessert for fall gatherings or simply indulging in a slice of something sweet and warm with a scoop of ice cream.


Ingredients

1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts total)

6 cups peeled, thinly sliced apples

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1/2 cup toffee bits

2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

1 egg

1 tablespoon milk


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Unroll one pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate. Press to fit and set aside.

2. In a large bowl, combine apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and toffee bits. Toss until evenly coated.

3. Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared crust. Dot with butter.

4. Place the second crust over the apples. Trim excess and crimp edges to seal. Cut small slits in the top to vent.

5. Whisk together egg and milk. Brush over the crust for a glossy golden finish.

6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Cover edges with foil if they brown too quickly. Let cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

Use a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples for best texture.

To prevent soggy crust, sprinkle a little flour and sugar mix before adding the filling.

For extra indulgence, drizzle with warm toffee sauce before serving.
