Description
Salted Caramel Buttercream Frosting is luxuriously smooth and packed with rich caramel flavor balanced by a hint of sea salt. Perfect for cupcakes, cakes, cookies, or fruit dips, this indulgent frosting adds a gourmet touch to any dessert.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup homemade caramel sauce, cooled to room temperature
3 to 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk (optional, for texture adjustment)
Instructions
1. Using a stand mixer or handheld mixer, beat the softened butter on medium speed for about 3–4 minutes, until light and fluffy.
2. Gradually add the cooled caramel sauce to the butter and mix on medium speed until fully incorporated.
3. Add powdered sugar one cup at a time, mixing on low to start, then increasing to medium. Continue until desired sweetness and stiffness is reached.
4. Add in the vanilla extract and sea salt. Mix to combine.
5. If the frosting is too thick, add 1 tablespoon of cream or milk at a time until the consistency is smooth and spreadable.
Notes
Make sure the caramel sauce is fully cooled before adding to the butter to avoid melting.
For piping, use the full 4 cups of powdered sugar for a firmer texture.
If using salted butter, reduce added salt to 1/4 teaspoon or taste and adjust.
