Description
These Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes bring a gourmet twist to a comfort food classic. Juicy ground beef simmered in a savory sauce with hints of Worcestershire and brown sugar, topped with melty cheese and piled onto toasted buns—this is a weeknight dinner win!
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
4 hamburger buns, toasted
4 slices cheddar or provolone cheese
Optional toppings: pickle slices, crispy onions, or lettuce
Instructions
1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add a small drizzle of oil and cook the diced onions until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary.
4. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and let the mixture simmer on low heat for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
5. Place a slice of cheese on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Spoon a generous portion of the meat mixture on top. Add your favorite toppings and the top bun. Serve immediately.
Notes
For extra richness, use brioche buns or buttered potato rolls.
Make the filling ahead—the flavors get even better after resting.
Add crispy onions or pickles for crunch and zing.
