Sweet Caramel Apple Empanadas

Description

Flaky puff pastry filled with warmly spiced apple chunks and luscious caramel, these Sweet Caramel Apple Empanadas bake up golden and delicious. Perfect as a handheld dessert for fall gatherings or anytime you crave cozy sweetness.


Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed

2 large apples, peeled and diced

3 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 pinch salt

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

0.25 cup caramel sauce

1 egg

1 tablespoon milk

1 tablespoon coarse sugar


Instructions

1. In a medium bowl, mix diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Let sit 5 minutes.

2. Roll out puff pastry slightly on a floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares.

3. Add apple filling to center of each square, drizzle caramel on top.

4. Fold each into a triangle, seal and crimp edges with fork. Place on lined baking sheet.

5. Mix egg and milk. Brush each empanada with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes until golden. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a balanced flavor.

Don’t overfill the pastry to prevent leakage.

Reheat leftovers in the oven for best texture.
