Description

Creamy mashed sweet potatoes meet tangy goat cheese and crispy sage leaves in this warm, comforting side dish. It’s easy enough for a weeknight but elegant enough for holidays, bringing sweet, savory, and herby flavors together in every bite.

Ingredients

3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed

4 oz goat cheese (chevre), crumbled or sliced

1 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp butter

10 fresh sage leaves

0.5 tsp salt

0.25 tsp ground black pepper

Optional: drizzle of maple syrup or honey for serving

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss cubed sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper on a baking sheet. Roast for 25-30 minutes until fork-tender and caramelized.

2. Transfer roasted sweet potatoes to a mixing bowl and mash until mostly smooth. Leave some texture. Spread into a small baking dish.

3. Scatter goat cheese evenly over the mashed sweet potatoes. Gently press some pieces in, leaving others on top.

4. In a small skillet over medium heat, melt butter and fry sage leaves for 1-2 minutes until crispy. Drain on paper towels.

5. Top the dish with crispy sage. Return to oven for 10 minutes to warm through. Serve warm with optional maple syrup drizzle.

Notes

Choose a creamy, fresh goat cheese log for best results.

Don’t over-fry the sage—1–2 minutes is perfect.

Add maple drizzle just before serving to preserve sage crispness.
