Ingredients
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ¼ cups warm water
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 ½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or mix)
2 tablespoons fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, or thyme)
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
2. Add olive oil, salt, and flour gradually. Mix and knead for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
4. In a small pan, melt butter and cook garlic until fragrant. Stir in herbs and remove from heat.
5. Mix garlic herb butter with shredded cheese.
6. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
7. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the dough.
8. Roll the dough into a log. Slice lengthwise and twist the halves with the cut sides up.
9. Place in greased loaf pan or lined baking sheet. Let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
10. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden. Let cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
This bread freezes well; wrap tightly and reheat in the oven.
Use cheeses that melt well like cheddar or mozzarella for best texture.
Do not overfill to avoid leaking during baking.
