These Chocolate Sugar Cookie Bars are soft, chewy, and packed with rich cocoa flavor in every bite. Baked in one pan and finished with a simple chocolate topping or served plain, they are an easy dessert for parties, holidays, or whenever you want a crowd-pleasing treat without extra fuss.
Ingredients
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add the egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and milk, then mix until smooth.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until combined.
6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
7. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, until the top is set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
9. Let the bars cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use room temperature butter for a smoother dough and better texture.
Do not overbake or the bars can lose their soft, chewy center.
Let the bars cool fully before slicing for clean edges and neat squares.
