Description
Crock-Pot Chili Dog Casserole is an easy comfort food dinner made with hot dogs, chili, buns, and melty cheese slow-cooked into one warm and hearty family meal.
Ingredients
8 hot dogs
8 hot dog buns
2 cans chili, 15 ounces each
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup diced onion
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon butter, softened
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
1. Lightly grease the inside of the Crock-Pot with nonstick spray or a little butter.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the chili, diced onion, mustard, ketchup, and garlic powder until well combined.
3. Spread a very thin layer of softened butter inside the hot dog buns if using. Place one hot dog inside each bun.
4. Spoon a small amount of the chili mixture into the bottom of the slow cooker.
5. Arrange the filled hot dog buns in the slow cooker in a single layer or slightly overlapping if needed.
6. Pour the remaining chili mixture evenly over the buns and hot dogs.
7. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
8. Cover and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, until the hot dogs are heated through and the cheese is melted.
9. Serve hot with extra toppings if desired.
Notes
Use thick chili so the casserole does not turn watery.
Do not overcook, or the buns can become too soft.
Add jalapeños, relish, or extra onion just before serving for more texture and flavor.
